Wow, so it's been almost 9 months since I last posted! I honestly can't believe I let it go as long as I did. Before anyone asks, no I didn't have a baby. Without getting all Drama Llama on you, I've had a rather hard year and that kept me from wanting to do anything blog-related, which cut my budding site rather short. While of course I still did makeup, it became more meditative and a way of just giving me a little boost to get me through the day. Now that things have, well, not settled, but have gotten much better, I can get back to the fun stuff! Like, you know, making jewelry, testing makeup, and trying out as much new stuff as possible! And I can start clearing out some of my draft posts that I had sitting on here for, well, 9 months. =D

There is so much I want talk about! To get started, keep an eye out for an Hourglass review as well one for Glamour Doll Eyes and a few other things coming down the pipe. I have also been giving myself mini-makeup challenges to keep it interesting, so I'll try to post about that as much as possible. Stay tuned because I can assure you that there is a lot coming your way!

Spectrum Cosmetics Haul (sort of )

Wow, barely even started and I'm already a bad blogger! Well, it's a good thing I have a bunch of pictures of pretty products! Woo, try saying that five times fast!

Yeah, so because I have absolutely no self-control, I broke my self-imposed no-buy and pounced on a few new products. To be fair, part of it was because I found a couple of items for a friend for Christmas. But I wouldn't give my friend things I haven't tried myself. What if they suck? Ok, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

One of the beauty products my friend E (that's what I'll be calling her) loves is a good lip scrub. She tends to buy the mint julep scrub from Lush, but always complained that it never came with a scoop or something so that she could apply the product without sticking her fingers in the pot. Even though I have another idea for what to get her (shhh, it's a surprise!), I still decided to look around and see if I could find her an alternative. Now, I love Lush as much as the next person, but I thought looking on Etsy for something from a small, independent seller might be a good way of making all of E's dreams come true (well, at least for that) and helping out an up-and-coming business.

This led me to Spectrum Cosmetics, who had the most awesome alternative to those cumbersome scrub pots: lip scrubs in a tube! Apply just like lip balm and rinse off until you reach the desired affect. Even though I did see other products like this on Etsy, I decided to explore this particular store. I think it was just because I like the packaging, the big variety of products (from eyeshadows to men's cologne), and let's be honest, I was curious about the flavors Erica, the shop's owner, chose for the lip scrubs. I ended up buying three scrubs (two for E, one for me--what?) and a lip gloss in this gorgeous gilded coral that I absolutely HAD to try. The package came about a week or so later, which is very good TAT to me. And the presentation was amazing! I'm not a person who gets too hung up on how the products come shipped to me. As long as they are protected from damage en route, that's all I care about. And Erica ensured that, as well as adding a cute handwritten note and an eyeshadow sample. I am nuts for samples (who isn't?) and so this scored some major points with me, as well as being a good tactic to get me to try something other than her lip products. So, here is what I bought below:

I've already tried some of the products and overall I'm very pleased. I've already used the lip scrub I got for myself and, when I pair it with my Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm, it works like a dream and my lips are super-soft and smooth. The best part? The flavor I got for myself, lemonade, tastes fantastic! And it works just beautifully, exfoliating my lips and smoothing them out, especially when I pair it with my Jouer lip conditioner, or my Maybelline Baby Lips balm. The other product I've had time to sample extensively was the coral lipgloss. Now, I bought this particular gloss because the photo on the site made it look gilded and gorgeous. In real life...well, not so much. Don't get me wrong, it is lovely, it's just not as pigmented as I had hoped. I think it's just because my lips are very pigmented in their own right, so the color wouldn't show up as much as I would like. Here's a shot of how it looks on me:

In the end, I still love this gloss and I think it works well as a wearable, daytime, for-the-office shade, as well as a layering shade to add depth to other colors. Also, it's incredibly smooth and not sticky at all, which makes this one of the more comfortable glosses I own. Absolutely lovely, makes me want to try some of her other glosses.

The final thing in the Spectrum package was a sample of Serenity, a beautiful green eyeshadow. I haven't had a chance to try it out, but I'll post pics up when I do! Overall, I really like this company and will probably buy from them again. I'm dying to try their eyeshadows and I will need to replace my lip scrub when it runs out! Also, Erica, the owner, ships very quickly and seems to understand the little touches necessary to make a package really special. I seriously enjoyed the note she threw in as it was sweet and promised all sorts of surprises!

When I give E her entire gift (pics to come when it's complete!) I'm definitely slipping in the business card for Spectrum!

Dear God, not another beauty blog! Help! I'm drowning!

I can imagine anyone (however few of you) that come across this site must be thinking. And let's face it: there are a lot of beauty blogs out there. More and more every day, which is really the wonderful thing about the Internet: everyone has a voice. I spent a lot of time trying to decide if starting a blog on here would be worth it. I'm relatively new to the world of makeup, having started maybe a year or two ago. When I say makeup, I should clarify: I mean primers, foundations, eyeshadows, mascaras, blush, eyeliner, lipstick, etc. I've been using nail polish pretty religiously since I was 11 years old (I'm 26 as of this post) and I've always had some sort of lip gloss or balm on hand, usually from Lip Smackers. All that other stuff confounded me until my fantastic friend Eugenia played Barbie with my face over and over again until I started to get interested. And suddenly, Sephora became my best friend.

Through the wonder of YouTube, I started learning how to use all these crazy, strange objects. The ones that have influenced me the most are Emily Noel, Irene aka Pinkiecharm,Michelle Phan, and Leesha aka XSparkage. If you don't care what I have to say, check  these chicks out if you haven't already. They are phenomenal and precise.

So, what do I have to offer that makes me in anyway different from other bloggers? Not much, really. :-) I'll be doing reviews on things that I already have that you might have heard of but need an umpteenth opinion on, I'll also be doing Birchbox stuff as I get them (just started with them, yay!), and whatever other products I decide to try, I'll be writing about here. Oh, and since I love doing my nails, any time I try something new I'll post here, too!

Besides that, I am also rather obsessed with all things media, so there may be some sort of rant occasionally about stuff I watch/read/listen to. And I am also a budding jewelry maker, so new designs that I create and my inspirations behind them are possible future posts. So, you see, it won't just be makeup!

If you've read this far, I hope I've managed to keep your interest for whatever I do in the near future! This is a flame-free zone. Please feel free to squee with me over anything that tickles you!

My name is Samantha and I'm an obsessaholic.
